PINETOPS — Early Sunday morning, 23-year-old Delaurence Antonio Hill of Pinetops was murdered outside the Pinetops Community Center.
Edgecombe County Sheriff James Knight says Cedrick Devon Williams, 19, also of Pinetops, has been charged with first-degree murder.
Investigators say an altercation broke out on the dance floor during a birthday party. The dispute continued outside, with shots being fired.
Hill was fatally wounded.
Investigators searched several hours for a suspect, who learned of the search and turned himself in.
Williams is being held without bond and will likely make his first court appearance on Wednesday.
No one has said what led to the argument.
