FAYETTEVILLE — A Fayetteville first-grader did not ride the bus to school Monday morning. Instead, she rolled up to school on a huge, red firetruck!

Stephanie Adamakos won the trip for coming in second place in a fire prevention poster contest.

The contest was sponsored by the Cumberland County Fire Marshall's Office.

The 6-year-old was allowed to bring a classmate from Alma Eason Elementary School.

Stephanie's mother says the fire prevention program proved educational when their fire alarm recently went off by mistake.

"Stephanie got out of the bed immediately and crawled down the stairs and she was yelling at me because I was walking and she was saying, 'Mommie, crawl! You have to crawl when there's smoke.' So I know the program works."

Not a bad prize for second place!

The first place winner gets a pizza party.
