RALEIGH — Raleigh has a new historic landmark -- the old Carolina Pines Hotel on Tryon Road.

The 1930s-era hotel is now listed on the Wake County Historic Registry. The plaque arrived Saturday.

N.C. State's Delta Sigma Phi fraternity bought the hotel in the mid 1950s. In those days, the building was turned back into a hotel during the Dixie Classic basketball tournament. It housed integrated teams from the North, who had nowhere else to stay in Raleigh.
