This "All-Nighter" Was a Challenge

Posted Updated

FORT BRAGG — Some folks in the Fort Bragg area were happy to see daylight arrive Sunday morning.

The post held its third annual all-night Perimeter Challenge Saturday night through the wee hours of Sunday.

The race included a Ranger obstacle course that tests strength, stamina and teamwork.

The five-person teams have to carry a litter with 90-pounds on it. Also being tested? Their land navigational skills.

Military personnel are not the only ones eligible to participate. Others huffing and puffing through the challenges were retired soldiers, college students and seasoned athletes.

"It's tough on your feet. And your knees! But there's competition out there all right. Some guys are smoking it!" according to one participant.

Others deemed it a grueling competition -- but said the weather was good for staging such an event.

The race covered 60 miles and included six rigorous challenges, including a road march.

The winners will accept their awards later today.
