PITTSBORO, N.C. — A Durham man was charged Monday in the slaying on a Chatham County woman whose body was found inside her home last month.

Tracy Lynn Baldwin, 38, was found in the bedroom of her home on Red Pine Road in northern Chatham County on May 12, authorities said. Deputies had gone to the house to check on her after her parents said they hadn't heard from her in a week.

Authorities said it appeared Baldwin had been dead less than two days. An autopsy showed she died of blunt force trauma.

Louis Ephraim Wilson III, 28, of 5606 Newhall Road in Durham, has been charged with first-degree murder in the case and is being held without bond in the Chatham County Jail.

Investigators said they focused on Wilson as a suspect early on after learning he had attended Alcoholics Anonymous meetings with Baldwin, authorities said.

It was later determined that Wilson used Baldwin’s bank card to remove an undisclosed amount of money from her checking account after she was last seen alive by neighbors and family members.

An analysis of DNA evidence found in Baldwin's home also linked Wilson to the crime scene, authorities said.
