Contractors Seek Governor's Help in Settling DOT Discrimination Suit

Carolina Associated Minority Contractors claim the DOT routinely discriminates against black contractors when it awards highway construction jobs.

"We want to work. We want to earn a living," says contractor Griffin Todd. "But when the law says that so much money coming into the state is supposed to be for minority contractors, we don't get it. And that's the law.".

Members want Governor Hunt to sign an executive order before he leaves office to correct the situation.

For the record, state figures show the DOT is already meeting the governor's goal to increase minority hiring.
