Autopsy Results Show Abused Dalmatian Died From Acute Anemia

Posted Updated

HARNETT COUNTY — Autopsy results show an abused dog may have died from a tick-borne disease.

Duchess the dalmatian died about a month after she was taken from her owners in Harnett County. Her foot had rotted off, and her uterus was severely infected.

The autopsy was inconclusive, but veterinarians believe she died from acute anemia caused by Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

Duchess' owners were convicted of misdemeanor animal cruelty, which they are appealing.
