DURHAM — A 2-year-old girl died Friday afternoon after falling out of a car.
Durham police say Hadeyah Porter fell out as her mother, Lisa Porter, and another woman were loading Hadeyah and four other children into a parked Isuzu Trooper at 1 p.m. at a Shannon Plaza laundromat. The car backed over her.
"Apparently, the car began rolling backward," says Lt. Ed Sarvis of the Durham Police Department. "At the same time, the 2-year-old girl had fallen out of the front passenger door and was struck by the right front wheel of the time."
Police say no charges will be filed because they could not find any signs of negligence.
