Some Soldiers Are Upset Over Army's New Fashion Trend: Black Berets
Posted October 17, 2000
FAYETTEVILLE — The Army is changing the color of its headgear, but everyone is not happy about it.
For years, only the military elite wore berets. But next June, black berets will become the standard for all men and women entering the Army.
Some people say the decision will lower the distinction of some special units.
"I think that giving it to all of the army may be a decision where you are trying to watering that down a little bit and get rid of some of that significance you have," says Capt. Troy Lohmeyer.
Soldiers will begin wearing the black berets June 14, 2001.
