RALEIGH — The message in Raleigh Sunday was stop the violence.
Dozens of people gathered at the state capitol to remember Raleigh's 22 homicide victims.
Candles were lit to honor each person who has died violently so far this year.
The vigil gave members of the community a chance to express their intolerance for violence.
"There's much too much violence in this country. There's much too much gun violence in this country," said Connie Padgett, one of the participants. "I'm hoping to make a difference. I'm hoping to get legislation changed in this country."
Several groups participated in today's event. The vigil helped kick off the YWCA's week without violence.
