N.C. State Public Safety officers, who are investigating the shooting, are not sure what events led to the shooting. They are still looking for the suspect.

"This isn't an area known for high-crime rates," said Sgt. Jon Barnwell of N.C. State Public Safety. "There hasn't been any type of need to have high patrol in this area. However, things do happen, and we're going to take care of it."

``It's only my fourth day on campus and somebody got shot?'' said Ashley Hale, a freshman who was getting a frozen soft drink at the convenience store.

Baumgart is a business management student with a home address of Weddington, N.C., according to school records.
