RALEIGH — Firestonetires are under fire again. This time, the trouble involves spare tires.
A hidden camera report by a Seattle television station revealed that some spare tires on 2001 Ford Rangers appear to be the recalled tires.
Fordand Firestone say the tires are not the same and are safe. Local car dealers caught in the middle are not taking any chances.
"We checked the lot this morning and found one today," says Peter Duerkson, service director at Capital Ford. "We will check them all, just as a matter of good business."
The spare tires are the same size make and model as the recalled tires, but they are stamped for temporary use only.
