CARY — A number of motorists driving by a Cary interchange of I-440 were very concerned Sunday about a chopper that seemed to be in difficulty. Actually, the helicopter was assisting with the work of the local power company.
Carolina Power and Light said they do have a crew doing "routine maintenance work on transmission lines."
The chopper was needed to get to the one at the I-40/I-440 interchange.
Contrary to the way it appeared, the crew was never in any danger -- although they buzzed fairly low to the road and to lines.
CP&L says the work could go on for a day or so more.
Many worried motorists called the WRAL-TV5 newsroom to report what they thought was a chopper in danger.
