Students carried the celebration, along with the goal posts, into the streets. However, the celebration came to a screeching halt when police ordered students to drop the goal post at the intersection of Hillsborough and Beryl Streets.
Signs of the celebration could still be seen Friday afternoon after the win. Students were still pumped up over the win.
"Tearing down the goal posts. That's been the talk. It's awesome," says student Cam Frazier.
State football fans have not seen a 4-0 record since 1994, and many hit the campus bookstore to load up on anything Wolfpack red. Wolfpack pride is also paying off at the box office. Season ticket sales are at a record high.
Thursday night's sold-out crowd included Chancellor Marye Anne Fox. She believes new coach Chuck Amato is part of a new era in N.C. State football.
"The first game I was here, we won, and I was told by an associate that I should go down and stop them from taking down the goal posts," Fox says. "I couldn't do it then, and I couldn't do it last night. As long as no one gets hurt, we'll cover the expense."
Goal posts are not cheap. They cost about $6,000 a piece. They plan to order a new set on Monday and will have them in place in about two weeks. N.C. State's next home game is Oct. 28 against Florida State.
