RALEIGH — Raleigh police are looking for a man convicted of assaulting an officer.

Atiba Agard, 25, was working at the State Personnel Training Center on Peace Street on what theN.C. Department of Correctioncalls an outside work assignment. Authorities say Agard asked to use the bathroom and never came back.

Agard was sentenced last year to three years in prison after being convicted of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, assault by pointing a gun, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He also was involved in a shootout with Raleigh police in April 1999 in which he was wounded after he tried to order a taxi driver at gunpoint not to stop his car for police.

He is the second felon to escape from work detail this summer.

James Rhodes, 53, of Raleigh escaped on July 20. He has still not been caught.
