Posted April 17, 2001
RALEIGH — There have been sightings in the Triangle area of wintry precipitation.
There were reports in Orange and Durham counties of sleet and wet snow. There were also reports of heavy snow in Greensboro.
High pressure over central Canada and the northern plains is driving colder air into the southeastern United States over the next three days.
The full brunt of colder air will be felt Tuesday night and early Wednesday. Temperatures are likely to dip to freezing over central North Carolina with record or near record lows around 30 degrees.
A freeze warning has been issued Tuesday night for areas west of the Triangle.
