Raleigh Police Search For Criminal Coin Collectors

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Police say there are some criminal coin collectors on the prowl.

Investigators are tracking 12 coin machine thefts that have taken place in the last five days. In some cases, as many as $500 in quarters were taken.

The thieves also committed property damage to newspaper boxes and video game machines.

"I think it's pretty sad that they would feel they have to steal the coins out of there," says restaurant manager Debbie Moorhouse.

Christopher Core, 18, of Raleigh, was arrested Tuesday night for seven of the the thefts. He may have more charges pending.

Police do not believe all the cases are connected. However, they do expect to make more arrests in those thefts by the end of the week.
