CHATHAM COUNTY — Search crews at Jordan Lake recovered the body of a missing boater Monday afternoon.
Officials say 58-year-old Alfred Witcher and his 9-year-old grandson, Randy Robarge, were out on the lake when somehow, both ended up in the water. Witcher drowned.
Robarge was rescued by Norberto Garcia Ayalya, who was in the area. He was taken to UNC Hospitals, where he is listed in good condition.
The Chatham County Sheriff's Office says its search was concentrated in the area of the Farrington Point boat ramp. The search began about 11 a.m. Monday; Witcher's body was discovered around 12:30 p.m.
Authorities are calling the incident an accidental drowning. Witcher and Robarge were not wearing life jackets.
