FAYETTEVILLE — Inspectors say the Cumberland County jail is safe again, so inmates will return Friday morning, after fire forced an evacuation of the facility two weeks ago.
More than 300 inmates were moved to different facilities across the state.
Inmates who were moved to the Western part of the state are returning Friday.
"They'll leave early in the morning and will be coming in throughout the day," says Cumberland County Sheriff Moose Butler. "Hopefully by Saturday afternoon we'll have everyone back in place."
Ninety inmates have already returned to the jail.
Housing and transporting all the inmates could end up costing Cumberland County $50,000.
