Truck Accidents Cause Traffic Hassles On Two Wake County Roadways

WAKE COUNTY — There was no such thing as "rush hour" Monday afternoon in Caryand west Raleigh as two accidents caused major traffic hassles.

A stretch of U.S. 1 in Cary was closed to traffic in both directions forseveral hours Monday after a logging truck overturned onto the median.

The wreck happened between Walnut Street and theI-40/I-440 interchange in Cary around 2:30 p.m. Three hours later,officials reopened the highway.

Officials say the truck driver, Dennis Silver, was traveling north alongU.S. 1 when he was cut off by a car merging into traffic. He lost control and overturned in the median.

It took crews two hours to free Silver from the truck. He wasairlifted by Lifeflight to Duke MedicalCenter, where he is listed in fair condition.

Another tractor-trailer was involved in a traffic accident on New BernAvenue.

Police say the driver may have underestimated the sharpness of the curveon the exit ramp. The driver suffered minor injuries

Traffic heading east was re-routed to Poole Road. It took work crews abouttwo hours to clear the dirt and debris on eastbound New Bern Avenue beforethe lane was reopened.
