Pat Bocckino and Liz Pullman are members of an organization called Citizens Against Urban Sprawl Everywhere or CAUSE. Concerned that development around Southpoint mall will ruin the neighborhood's scenery, they have come up with their own development plan.
"I'm not anti-growth. I would just like to see some order to it," Pullman says. "I would like to see it reflect the order that the people who live here want."
The group's development plan would limit the growth of apartments, buildings, hotels and office complexes to areas near Interstate 40 and away from the neighborhoods close to the mall.
"We can't just yell and say that we don't like your plan," Bocckino says. "We have a draft, a beginning, of what could be a very good plan for this area."
The group held a citizens' meeting Thursday with other residents in south Durham to share their proposed plan before presenting the plan to city officials next week.
