Gang Violence Takes Its Toll On Durham Neighborhood
Posted April 17, 2001
DURHAM — A Durham neighborhood is mourning the loss of an eighth-grader who was murdered over the weekend.
Family and friends say Catrina Carr was an innocent victim of gang violence. The 15-year-old was shot outside a Grace Street house in eastern Durham Friday night.
She is the second teen to fall victim to gang violence in the neighborhood in the past two weeks.
"She was just an innocent bystander. They wasn't after her. They were after somebody else," says Trudy Webb, Carr's aunt.
Just down the street from where Carr lived, a memorial marks the place, where 19-year-old Omontay Toomer was murdered. Police say he was a gang member.
No arrests have been made in either case.
