Senate Votes Down Open Container Bill; General Assembly Approves Telemarketing Bill

RALEIGH — TheGeneral Assemblycapped off a big day Friday with a pair of legislative decisions. North Carolina's Open Container Law Sent Back To CommitteeAbill banning open beer and wine containerswas voted down on the Senate floor Friday and sent back to committee.

The bill would make it illegal for passengers to have open containers in the car even if the driver is not drinking.

The state will lose millions in federal funding if an open container law is not passed. General Assembly Passes Telemarketing BillA telemarketing bill is on its way to the Governor's desk.

The bill requires telemarketers to create lists of consumers who do not want to be bothered by dinnertime sales pitches. The House and Senate passed the bill Friday.

Governor Jim Hunt says he will sign the bill next week. -->
