Man Charged in Beating Death at Spring Lake Club

Posted Updated

SPRING LAKE — A nightclub's security officer is being held without bond in Cumberland County jail, following the beating death of a patron over the weekend.

Officials say Michael Anthony Davis,25, was removed from the nightclub by security guards. He was beaten and kicked in the head outside the club, dying at the scene.

The security coordinator, Mohammed Abdul Shabazz Marsh, is charged with first-degree murder.

The death occurred about 2 a.m. Saturday at the N.C. Live Night Club.

Police say about 500 people were packed in the club to hear a rap artist perform. The performer was three-and-a-half hours late, and the crowd became very irate.

There was some bottle-throwing, and according to police, some security guards carried Davis out of the club.

More charges may be on the way. Police are interviewing club patrons to determine how many security guards were involved. -->
