RALEIGH — Local funds may be needed to offset fund-raising problems for the the CIAA college basketball tournament which will be held at the Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena in six weeks.
Organizers say they are about $65,000 short of what they promised to run the tournament and provide scholarships to the 12 participating schools.
Organizers say the tournament is not in jeopardy. If they cannot come up with the money,Raleigh, Wake County, and theGreater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureauwill have to foot the bill.
For the past five years, the tournament has been held in Winston-Salem.
