ORANGE COUNTY — The condition of a 4-year-old Chatham County girl, found after being lost outdoors for 17 hours, has been upgraded to serious.
Hailey Bogue was found alive in a snowy field when a reserve deputy caught a glimpse of something blue -- Hailey's jacket -- and found the girl face down in the snow. Hailey was semi-conscious.
She was rushed to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, suffering from extreme hypothermia. Initially, she was listed in critical condition. Doctors said her body temperature had dropped to 72 degrees.
At one point, about 100 people were involved in the search.
She was found about a half-mile from the house where she had been playing.
Bogue was reported missing around 5:30 p.m. Monday by her parents. She disappeared on Clearwater Lake Road in southern Orange County, near the Chatham County line, while playing with a friend and some dogs.
