Credit Union Catering to Latino Community Opens in Durham

Posted Updated

DURHAM — Spanish-speaking people now have a place to go for affordable financial services.

The first credit union in the state devoted to the growing Latino population opened Monday in Durham.

Among other things, the Latino Community Credit Union will provide savings and checking accounts, consumer loans and ATM services.

"Not only are we creating the first Latino owned and run institution, the people have access to open an account in their own language without obstacles of documentation or cultural barriers," says John Herrera, Latino Community Credit Union CEO.

The credit union has a bilingual staff and offers printed materials in English and Spanish.

Anyone living in the Triangle is welcome to become a member.
