A female clerk at Ray's Grocery Store on White Oak Road in Garner was shot in the head Saturday night during a robbery attempt.
Friends and neighbors identified the victim as Colleen Blackburn. A customer discovered her body behind the store's counter.
Investigators believe the murder happened just before 9 p.m.
The suspects are said to be in their mid-20s. One of the suspects was wearing a Hawaiian shirt and baggy brown pants. No other descriptions were made available.
The get-away vehicle is described as a light-blue, mid-1980s Oldsmobile with part of its rear bumper missing.
