RALEIGH, N.C. — Three Raleigh men have been arrested in connection with a weekend slaying that was initially believed to be a fatal car wreck, police said Thursday.

David Turpin, 33, of 4401 Green Road, Nefta Wilson, 27, of 2400 Lemuel Drive, and Arthur Gaines, 25, have been charged with murder in the Sunday death of 30-year-old Damarkos Eugene-Alan Thorpe.

Thorpe was found in a car following a crash on Glascock Street near the intersection of Brighton Road early Sunday morning. The car had hit a utility pole, and Thorpe died later at WakeMed.

Police said Monday that they determine Thorpe died of a gunshot wound. He was the only one in the car at the time, police said.
