Check Out the Future of Technology at Comtexpo

RALEIGH — If you want to see the latest in computer and consumer electronics equipment, the coolest of the cool gadgets, now is your chance. Comtexpo is underway the Raleigh Convention and Conference Center. WRAL OnLine's Tom Lawrence says the show is full of dazzling digital wonders.

Comtexpo is different this year. Organizer Dave Gardner says the event is extended through Saturday and is open to the public."We've done this because of the convergence of technology between computers and consumer electronics."Gardner says you'll see everything from digital camcorders to the new low-cost, high-powered home computers."We're really trying to focus on people who are trying to learn about technology from home entertainment centers that are using computer technology, computers that are broadcasting television, televisions that are computer based."WRAL OnLine lets you browse the web and you can see for yourself whatHigh Definition Televisionis all about.

The show has been a business-to-business affair for several years, but consumers' appetites thirst for the latest in technology.

Seminars cover a wide range of information technology topics. Educational outfits tout their services too. Judith Cantor, ofThe Computer Lab, says her company offers certification training."You would find that these credentials that we help people get actually help them get jobs. And we've got one 100% job placement out of our training center."

Comtexpo is the place to check out the future. That of technology and maybe your own.

Comtexpo runs Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Admission is $5.
