Authorities say a 19-year-old South Carolina woman has admitted abandoning her little son in a New York City toy store.

Tamekka Adams told police she was unable to provide for the boy anymore.

The boy, who's four or five, was found at a Toys 'R Us store in Brooklyn last March. Authorities turned to the media for help in locating the child's family after no one reported him missing and attempts to locate relatives were fruitless.

Adams was held overnight in a South Carolina jail on a check fraud charge. She was released today after New York officials did not ask for her to be held for questioning. No immediate charges involving the youngster's abandonment have been filed.

Relatives said they thought the boy was with his father.
