February 29, 1996 - 12:25 p.m. EST

ThreeN.C. Statefootball players have been suspended from the team after being charged with breaking into two cars in West Raleigh.

Brian Brooks (R), a sophomore defensive tackle, was arrested and charged by Raleigh police following car break-ins at the Blue Ridge Cinemas. Police had undercover officers staking out the area after numerous break-ins.

Authorities also have charged juniors Chris McNeil and Steve McKnight with two counts of breaking and entering.

Police say they observed some men breaking into cars near the cinema. When police approached, the men sped away in a car, then ran on foot.

Authorities traced the car to Brooks. He was charged with two counts of breaking and entering. Police say they also will look at Brooks as they investigate similar car break-ins in the area.

Wolfpack footballcoach Mike O'Cain told WRAL-TV5 News investigative reporter Stuart Watson that he had dismissed Brooks from the team after learning of the arrest.

Watson will have more details on the WRAL-TV5 News Six O'Clock Report
