GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Goldsboro police are waiting for autopsy results to determine whether a baby found in the city's wastewater system was born alive.
A city worker found the infant's body, with its umbilical cord attached, at the Highway 117 pump station Thursday morning.
Tucked behind a truck repair shop, authorities said the facility is a small one, in which workers stop by from time to time to check on.
Investigators did not say whether they knew how long the body had been at the plant. They also won't discuss the baby's sex or race.
Anyone with information about the baby's identity or mother's whereabouts is asked to call the Goldsboro Police Department at
