Fayetteville Teacher Still Banned from Parks

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE — August 23, 1996 - 12:18 p.m. EDT

A Fayetteville teacher remains on the outside looking in.

Barbara Mauer was banned from entering all city parks after she refused to stop leaving food for stray cats in Mazarick Park.

She appealed that ban, but lost her case.

City and county officials worry that the food might attract rabid animals to an elementary school adjacent to the park.

Animal control is trapping the cats, and warns people not to let their pets run loose in the area
