RALEIGH — Many young people around the Triangle are asking 'Where did the summer go?' as schools begin to open and school supply stores sell out.
Schools in Wake, Orange, Wayne, Nash, Chatham and Wilson Counties all opened Tuesday. Johnston and Cumberland County schools will open Wednesday and Durham schools will open Monday.
The last minute crunch is on when it comes to buying school supplies. Children and parents are scouring stores looking for everything from sneakers to binders.
Retailers around the area got a head-start because of year-round schools. Retailer Kathy King says her stock has been selling well for a while.
Retailers say they expect the rush to continue for a couple of weeks as students find out more about what they'll need from their new teachers.
