Raleigh Company Brings Speed & Accuracy to the Checkout Process

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — The people who make it easier for you to do your grocery shopping can be found in the Triangle. A leading company in retail systems technology has set up its U.S. headquarters in Raleigh.

Systech's world headquarters is in Canada, but 300 of the company's 1,000 employees work for the company in Raleigh. The Triangle was chosen because talent needed by the company is here.

"And so for us and our growth and what we want to do into the future, we see us being able to attract those people and be able to grow," says Systech's Kirk McCormick.

With completion of a new building next spring, employment will grow by 50 percent.

All kinds of checkout machines, printers and computers are built, repaired and shipped from Systech's Raleigh plant. The help desk handles problems 24/7.

Harris Teeteris one of many companies using Systech Retail Systems equipment. A self-checkout system speeds up a trip through the supermarket.

"Their checkout systems would contain some piece of what we do within that whole environment. With scanning systems as they first appeared and now with self-checkout, they will get to the handhelds that are at store level," says McCormick.

The newest checkout system includes a keyboard, a credit card reader, a check encoder and a color screen that allows the you to see the bill as it is totaled. A receipt is then printed.

Next time you check out at the store, remember your neighbors helped make the trip easier.
