Duplin County Family Left Homeless by Fire

WARSAW — July 15, 1996 - 6:10 p.m. EDT

A Duplin County family is homeless after a hurricane-related fire destroyed their house just outside Warsaw.

Flames broke out Friday, a few hours after Hurricane Bertha uprooted a tree that fell through the back of the house. Fire officials say they believe power surges triggered the blaze.

Timmy Potter and his family were not home at the time of the fire, but he says the loss was devastating.

The Potters and their two children are staying with relatives.
