Vandals Strike Fayetteville Cemetery

FAYETTEVILLE — June 13, 1996 6:55 p.m. EDT

Police are having a difficult time solving a crime of vandalism that occurred at an out-of-the-way cemetery.

Close to 50 headstones were toppled or broken in the privately-owned grave-yard, including stones on two children's graves. The clean-up effort is being complicated by the fact that there are no records of grave sites, so no one knows where some of the pieces go.

Police have no suspects yet and, since the cemetery is not city property, the families of those buried there will have to pay for repairs themselves.

Fayetteville police say they would like to hear from anyone who has information about this crime or those who committed it.
