ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A two-vehicle accident on eastbound N.C. Highway 64, just west of the Interstate 95 intersection, sent several passengers to a local hospital Sunday afternoon.
Authorities said one of the vehicles was exiting I-95 northbound onto U.S. 64 eastbound at about 3:15 p.m. when the driver lost control. The vehicle then ran off the road to the left and then overcorrected and rolled over, throwing the passenger out of the vehicle. The vehicle then struck a light post.
Rocky Mount police officers at the scene said one person was thrown from a vehicle and others were hurt, but the severity of the injuries was not immediately known.
The person thrown from the car was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital; the other passengers were transported to Nash General Hospital.
Authorities had not yet released the victims' identities.
