At some time between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sunday, police responded to a call at

    Glenwood Towers

where they found 67-year-old Ralph Brewster, injured, apparently from being stabbed. He was taken to WakeMed with non-life-threatening injuries.

A short time later, a Wake County sheriff's deputy spotted a vehicle with smoke coming from beneath the hood near the intersection of

Timber Drive and Vandora Springs Road

    in Garner.

When the deputy approached the vehicle, he discovered a man inside who appeared to have been involved in a fight and appeared to be intoxicated. The man, Jeffrey James Snyder, 40, of Garner, was charged, by Garner police, with driving while impaired; and was charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury by Raleigh police.

According to a Raleigh Police Department spokesman, the two men were acquaintances who had gotten into an argument with each other that resulted in Brewster being stabbed.

Snyder is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Raleigh on Monday.

Glenwood Towers, a Raleigh Housing Authority apartment community located in the Glenwood south area for people ages 50 and older, has been the site of other crimes in the past. In November 2001, police say an 81-year-old was robbed and beaten and later died as a result of her injuries. In April 2004, police discovered two bodies of a man and woman who had been shot. Police later ruled their deaths a murder-suicide.
