A state Highway Patrol investigation has lead to new information about a tragic Memorial Day accident in Moore County.

Tuesday, investigators said the driver, Kristina Koffler (pictured, right), was not wearing a seatbelt when she lost control of her car. This morning, they say Kofflerwaswearing a seatbelt, but her passengers were not.

Koffler and Stephan Martin, both 17, died in the accident on Highway 15-501 outside Carthage.

Ironically, Koffler had written a school paper about the hazards of encountered by teen drivers. She wrote that teens often crowd into a car and make a lot of distracting noise, and that impatience is a fatal mistake that teens often make because they drive too fast.

Police say excessive speed caused the accident
