RALEIGH — Tired of writing checks and licking stamps to mail your utility bill? Now you can do it anytime, online. In addition, if you are a job hunter, be on the lookout for the "Surfari 2000" tour. Receive and Pay Your CP&L Bill OnlineCP&L has teamed up with CheckFree to makepaying your bill easier.

If you are online, you can type in your account number and check out your bill. Your billing history is online and you can also look at the billing history in graph form.

The e-bill differs from automatic bank draft in that you decide when you pay. There is no charge for the new service.

"The advantage to the consumer is speed and convenience. I can pay anytime," says Rick Larson of CP&L Customer Service. "I can go out there and look at the information from my utility bills at any time."

CheckFree, an online bill payer, provides the Internet-based service. Security is provided by strong encryption.

"CheckFree also has a guarantee, who we are partnering with, that they guarantee that the funds are transferred right and correctly," Larson says.

Paying online saves time and the cost of envelopes, checks and postage. Looking for a New Job? Prowl Around Headhunter.netHeadhunter.net, an online job search company, is taking their Surfari van to the Triangle.
