Teen Mother Indicted After Infant's Scalding Death

DURHAM — April 10, 1996 - 12:05 p.m. EDT

A teenage mother from Durham has been indicted on a charge of murder in connection with the scalding death of her infant daughter.

Seven-week-old Tia Jones died last month after receiving severe burns over 70 percent of her body.

The infant's 18-year-old mother, Lakeisha Johnson, told police hot bath water caused the burns, but investigators say that story isn't consistent with the child's injuries
