WINSTON-SALEM — April 8, 1996, 11:13 a.m. EST Easter Sunday was a mixed blessing for some Winston-Salem residents. They escaped with their lives from an early morning fire, but lost most of their possessions.
Ten units of an apartment house went up in flames. With the fire in its early stages, it was discovered by a tenant who managed to wake her neighbors.
Firefighters said her efforts saved many lives.
Nineteen people are now looking for new homes
