DUPLIN COUNTY — April 6, 1996 - 6:08 p.m. EST
One deputy has been shot and two others were wounded by flying glass during a Saturday afternoon shootout in Duplin County.
At last report, there was still a great deal of confusion at the scene where deputies had attempted to serve involuntary commitment papers to a man at his home. When they approached the house, the man began shooting with a high-powered rifle.
The wounded deputy was shot in the arm. All three wounded officers are being treated at Duplin County General Hospital.
