WARSAW — April 7, 1996, 11:27 a.m. EST A man who is to be served with involuntary commitment papers was still holding officers at bay at noon Sunday. On Saturday, he shot one deputy in the upper arm. Two other deputies were injured by cuts from flying glass. All the officers are reported in good condition. The man, identified as Donald Boone, 50, is alone in his trailer.
When the confrontation began, Boone's wife and child were in the mobile home with him. They were later released unharmed.
Boone is said to be armed with a high-powered rifle. About 9 Saturday evening the lights along Ward's Bridge Road, near the trailer, went out but it's not clear if that was related to the stand-off. Nearby residents have been evacuated.
The State Bureau of Investigation has sent a three-member negotiating team to Duplin County to talk to the man
