March 28, 1996 - 2:41 p.m. EST

The man accused of killing one Johnston County deputy and wounding another pleaded not guilty Thursday.

Angel Guevara (pictured, left) could face the death penalty for a September shooting that left Deputy Paul West dead and his partner, Lt. Ronald Medlin, critically injured.

Despite defense attempts to move the trial, Guevara will be tried in Johnston County, but jurors will be brought in from Nash County.

Jury selection will begin May 28
