CHAPEL HILL — March 25, 1996, 1:41 p.m. EST A seven-week-old girl died early this morning at the UNC Burn Center in Chapel Hill. Investigators say they intend to charge the baby's mother with murder.
The infant had been admitted to the burn center last week with first and second degree burns over most of her body.
Last week, the child's mother, 18-year-old Lakesha Johnson, was charged with felony child abuse. Police said at that time that if the child died, her mother would be charged with murder.
Johnson claims the baby was burned when she briefly left her in a tub of running water at their Durham home
