Housing Fraud Suspected In Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE — March 15, 1996 - 3:25 p.m. EST

State and federal authorities are looking into the possibility that some Fayetteville housing programs engaged in fraudulent activity.

Questions have been raised about some repairs that contractors were supposed to have made at 11 homes over the past few years.

City officials say some of the work was never done and the work thatwasdone was of questionable quality.

It is possible that as much as $60,000 in taxpayer money was squandered.

The housing programs involved were designed to help low-income families maintain their property
