RALEIGH — March 2, 1996 - 6:07 p.m. EST

Police say they got more than they expected when they set out to put a dent in prostitution in southeast Raleigh.

After a four night sting operation in an area around Martin and Davie Streets and Chavis Way, police said it was their biggest sweep since 1993.

A total of 35 people, including including nine men who were potential customers to some of the 26 prostitutes, were arrested.

The sting came in response to complaints from area residents and businesses.

Police officers will meet with members of the public Wednesday night to discuss their effort
